Apple Funds Corning With an Additional $250 Million For Next-Gen Glass Development

Apple will be awarding Corning an additional $250 million from its Advanced Manufacturing Fund. This will be on top of the $200 million funding it had provided to the glassmaker back in May 2017.

Corning supplies Apple with cover glass for the iPad, iPhone, and the Apple Watch. While Apple does not use Corning’s brand name in the spec sheet, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro also make use of Corning’s strengthened glass. Corning has manufactured the glass used at its Harrodsburg facility in Kentucky. In fact, the glass used in every generation of iPhone and Apple Watch has been made in this very facility itself.

“Apple and Corning’s rich history dates back more than a decade, and our partnership revolutionized glass and transformed the technology industry with the first iPhone,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “This award underscores Apple and Corning’s shared belief in the vital role that ingenuity plays in creating industry-leading products, and the pride that both companies take in applying American innovation and advanced manufacturing to solve some of the world’s toughest technology challenges.”

Since the original iPhone’s release, Apple has spent nearly $3 billion with Corning on the glass used in iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad.Also Read: rarbg proxy

In its press release, Apple boasts that it has invested over $1 billion from its Advanced Manufacturing Fund in American companies. The company has created a budget of $5 billion to invest in companies for advanced manufacturing purposes.

How to Easily Transfer Data to New iPhone With Migration Utility

While the iOS 12.4 beta builds from Apple did not contain any new feature, the final build of the OS released to the public earlier this week contained a new iPhone migration utility. The icon of this tool had leaked earlier and many believed that it would be a part of iOS 13. However, Apple has made this new iPhone migration utility a part of iOS 12.4 release itself.

As the name suggests, one can use the iPhone migration feature to quickly transfer their data, apps, and other personal data from their old iPhone to a new one. The entire process happens wirelessly and does not require one to have access to a PC with iTunes installed.

The new utility will make it easier for new iPhone users to easily carry over their data from their old phone without too much of a hassle. The good thing about this process is that it bypasses iCloud so you will not be forced to subscribe to an iCloud storage plan if the total data size is more than your iCloud account’s storage space.
iPhone Migration Tool: Things to Know

You start the migration process by simply bringing your old iPhone near your new iPhone. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices.

While the process can be done wirelessly, one can also use a Lightning cable along with an appropriate adapter to transfer data over a wired connection.

You will have to use the same Apple ID on your new iPhone as your old iPhone.

Depending on the amount of data to be transferred, the entire process can easily take an hour or two.

Apart from transferring your data, you have the option to also transferring your system settings.

You will also be prompted to select if you would like to automatically pair your Apple Watch with the new iPhone.

All apps will be downloaded from the App Store so you will need an active (and speedy) internet connection during the process.

Your old and new iPhone must be running on iOS 12.4.
Use iPhone Migration Tool to Transfer Data from Old iPhone to New iPhone
Step 1: Bring Both iPhones Close to Each Other

With your new iPhone at the setup process, bring the old iPhone close to it. This will bring up the Quick Start pop-up on your old iPhone. Tap Continue on the pop-up and confirm your identity using Touch ID or Face ID.

Step 2: Scan the Animation on Your New iPhone from Your Old iPhone

To pair both phones, you will have to scan the object being displayed on your new iPhone using your old phone. In case the camera on your old iPhone is not working, you can use the Authenticate Manually option. This will help complete the pairing process.
Step 3: Set up Face ID/Touch ID on Your New iPhone

Enter the passcode of your old iPhone on your new iPhone. After a minute, you will be prompted to set up Face ID/Touch ID on your new device.
Step 4: Decide How You Want to Transfer Data

Once you are done setting up Face ID/Touch ID, you will get an option to transfer data from your old iPhone or use iCloud to restore an old backup. Both options will display the amount of time required for the entire process to complete.

You have to select the Transfer from iPhone option. Use Other Options at the bottom if you want to transfer data between your old and new iPhone over a wired connection.

Step 5: Proceed with the Setup Process

Continue with the setup process where you will have to accept a few terms and conditions. After that, the actual data transfer process will start which can take anywhere between a few minutes to an hour or two depending on the amount of data you have.

Make sure to keep both phones next to each other until the entire data transfer process is over.

With Apple getting rid of iTunes in macOS Catalina, it makes a lot of sense for the company to offer an alternative and swift way of wirelessly transferring data from an old iPhone to a new iPhone wirelessly. It will come in handy when one does not have access to a PC while setting up their new iPhone.

Apple to Limit Third-Party Tracking in Kids Apps

In a report covering apps that are tracking kids and sending data to companies like Facebook and Google, The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern says that Apple is planning to limit third-party tracking in apps that are in the Kids section of the App Store.

The site says that a "person familiar with the matter" shared the info on the upcoming feature, though Apple declined to comment.

In fact, Apple will limit third-party tracking in apps in the Kids category of the App Store, according to a person familiar with the matter. Apple declined to comment on this, but a spokeswoman provided a statement:

"For privacy and security reasons, Apple does not see what data users choose to share with developers and we can't see what developers do on their servers."

In the piece, Stern mentions an iOS app for kids called Curious World that she found was tracking her son, collecting data that included age, name, and books he tapped on, with that data then sent to Facebook.

She went on to test over 80 apps, many promoted by Apple, and all of them except for one included third-party trackers for marketing, ads, or analytics purposes.

Apps tested (which weren't kids apps specifically) included an average of four third-party trackers, and some had many more. The app her son was using had a total of seven trackers in it.

There are no controls in iOS for limiting the tracking features that are used by apps for everything from ad targeting to analytics, though users can download VPN apps that block these services. Stern suggests that Apple and Google should cut down on the amount of data that third-party trackers are able to collect and require app developers to provide clearer disclosures.

Are iMessages Free? Find the Answer Here

Have you heard of iMessages and want to know if it is free or not? Well, not to worry. This article has all you need to know and more.

Without a doubt, iMessages have earned its place as one of the exceptional apps on IOS. From allowing you to send texts to sending pictures across iOS devices running iOS 5 and higher, this incredible app makes your life easier.

Now, the million-dollar question is, Are IMessages free? Read on, and you’ll find out in a bit.

Differences between Messages and iMessages

Are iMessages Free?

Tip: View iMessages for Free
Differences between Messages and iMessages

iMessages and text messages both function within the messaging app of your iPhone, but they are two different technologies with lots of exciting features. For every iPhone user, it’s essential for you to know the differences between iMessages and messages.
Text Messages

Text message is an essential functionality of your iOS devices and it is designed to use plans you purchase from your carriers. Amazingly, there are two types of them:

SMS (short service message): SMS are the original text messages we have been sending for years, and they are limited to 160 characters per page. Going above this characters will trigger an extra charge from your carrier.

MMS (Multimedia messaging service): This type of text message allows additional functionalities such as sending images, longer messages and other contents over text.

Once most carriers have charged higher for sending MMS, but today that has been relaxed as they now charge the same rate for both SMS and MMS.
iMessage

Although iMessages and messages function almost alike, a significant difference is that iMessages uses data to send messages. What this means is that you don’t have to purchase text messaging plans before you can send messages.

We believe that with this, you must have gotten some insight to your question, are iMessages free?

iMessage provides you with loads of amazing benefits more than regular messages would. Here, check out some of them:

With regular text messages, you’re limited to the type of contents you can send. However, with iMessage you can send various content including pictures, images, videos, files and more.

iMessage works over Wi-Fi, helping you to save your data plan for other important things.

iMessage is faster than SMS and MMS.
Are iMessages Free?

You’ve known the differences between messages and iMessages, so now let's answer this pertinent question, are iMessages free?

While many people think that iMessages are free of charge, for us the concept of free is not always real, and you’ll see why soon. We have heard users complain in the past that they were charged for sending messages via iMessages. From our research, we have found that iMessages are only free across iOS 5 devices and higher. This means if you send to a device running less than iOS 5, you’ll be charged.
Q 1. How to Tell whether My iMessages are Free or Not?

Now, how do you determine if your iMessages are free or not? Well, don’t sweat it as we have all that covered. Knowing whether your iMessages are free or not is simple.

When you compose a message in your iMessage app, and you select the number you want to send that message to. Usually, you’ll notice that the send button is either blue or red. If the color is a blue color, it means that the message is free and vice versa.

And to answer your question - “Are iMessages free internationally?”. The answer is yes, provided the sending button is blue.

Q 2. How Much Cellular Data Does iMessage Use?

While the prospect of sending free messages over data may sound appealing, have you ever wondered how much data sending iMessages consume?

Well, guess what, the answer is buried somewhere within your iOS settings. The best part is that you can find this information on any iPhone or cellular - equipped iPad running on recent iOS releases. Here is how to find how much data iOS is consuming:

Step 1: Navigate to the settings app and scroll to cellular section located near the top.

Step 2: Scroll down and select system services.

Step 3: Now, select messaging services near the top and you’ll be able to see the total iMesage cellular data consumption.

Q 3. Send Messages from iPhone/iPad/iPod touch for Free

Do you know that you can send messages from iPhone/iPad/iPod touch for free? With iOS in the built app, iMessages, you can start sending messages for free. Although there are lots of apps designed for this purpose, iMessages has proven to be quite effective over the years.

To send free messages over iMessages, you need to log in using your Apple ID. The exciting part about using iMessages is that it allows you to use either Apple ID, email or phone number to set it up.

Q 4. Turn off SMS Messaging to Avoid Carrier Fees

It can be pretty annoying to get charged when using iMessages especially when you know you can use the app to send free messages. But guess what, we have a solution to this.

If you’re sending text abroad using Wi-Fi, your messages will be sent as iMessage. If you have also purchased data to use to send iMessages, you’ll want to make sure your messages are delivered via iMessages to avoid extra charges from your courier.

To avoid carrier charges over SMS, you need turn off “send as SMS” which you can easily do by navigating to settings -> Send as SMS and turn it off.

You Can Now Use SoundHound to Share Music Through Instagram Stories

SoundHound is a popular streaming platform for music fans, and now it’s getting a new way to share the songs and artists you like through Instagram.

SoundHound officially announced today that it has launched the ability to share songs through the platform by way of Instagram Stories. It’s all pretty straightforward in execution, and SoundHound says the idea is built around the idea of being able to quickly share a track you’re listening to through one of the more popular social networks out there.

“Did you know you can now share songs from SoundHound to Instagram Stories? We know how much it can mean to our users to find that perfect song, it’s what drives us to continuously improve the SoundHound app. And we know you love sharing that tune just as much as finding it. Now we’re offering one more way to share those magical moments easily, through Instagram Stories.”

The process takes only three steps. The first, tap “the orange button” to identify a song and bring up the social features (including the ability to connect directly to Apple Music). After that, step two will see you tap either the “Share” icon or the “Instagram Stories” banner, whichever you prefer. That will open up in the Instagram app you need to have installed, showing the artist name and track information.

The third and final step sees you adding it to your Instagram Story as usual.

And as usual, Instagram’s Stickers are also supported, so you can spruce up the story you’re sharing, along with the music, to make it even more unique. But it’s not just about discovering new music and sharing it:

“Want to share songs you’ve discovered in the past? That’s super easy too. Just go to your history in the SoundHound App, select the song, and tap the share icon.”

The new feature is available now in SoundHound. A link to download the free app is available below.Sponsor ads:

This is not the first time that Instagram Stories have experimented with music integration. Back in December of last year the company rolled out Question Stickers to help with music recommendations. And in June of the same year “Music Stickers” made it quick and easy to give a soundtrack to a story.
